How Sock Market works

Kids do jobs, you approve them, and the money is real. Sock Market keeps the running total and turns everyday chores into earning, saving, and spending — with the honest arithmetic of what things cost.

Paid jobs earn real money — make the bed, feed the dog.

Family jobs are things we just do to help out. They earn a ⭐ and build a streak, but no money.

When a kid finishes a job they tap to claim it. It waits as “needs a grown-up.” Once a day you ring the closing belland approve the day's jobs together — the balance ticks up, digit by digit. Nothing pays out until you say so.

Sock Market tracksthe money; it isn't a bank and never moves cash. When your kid cashes out, you hand over the real dollars. The number in the app is your shared, honest record.

Kids can set a savings goal — a bike, a LEGO set — and watch it fill up. Every Sunday, savings grow a little: a weekly “interest” lesson that teaches the one idea that pays for itself, that money you don't spend grows. (It's a lesson, not a real bank rate.)

Kids spend at the shop you set up — extra screen time, a treat, a small toy. Every purchase shows up in “Money out,” so they can see exactly where their money went.

Sometimes a consequence has a cost. In grown-up mode → Money you can take money away with a reason (“didn't listen”). The kid sees it in “Money out” with that reason — the drop is never a mystery.

Kids never sign in — they just tap their face. Anything to do with money and setup lives behind a 4-digit grown-up PIN, so a curious kid can't change their own balance. You set the PIN the first time you open grown-up mode.

Each kid has a Learn page with short money stories and games — a gentle way to build reading and money sense while they earn.
